Imagine you just published a book. Not just any book mind you. A magical book. It happened serendipitously. You sat next to someone who is a very famous author. She got to know you. And was captivated by your story. You didn't plan it. It just happened. You didn't know anything about writing books, or publishing. Or even charities. It all just sort of happened.
You didn't go the publishing houses, you self-published. The truth is you aren't a business man. You are a well known attorney in the mid-west. And you aren't a shark. You are benevolent and altruistic to a fault. So much so, that others have taken advantage of you.
You attend a meeting in Maui. You give a talk about your book. You stand in front of 200 people and mesmerize the audience. Your words reach inside their heart and rip it out. You are clueless why some people leave the room they are so overwhelmed by your story. Why? They are moved by what you have done with your life. It is beyond comprehension that any one person would do what you have done.
Imagine you are this man.
We all come to a cross roads in our life. We all come to a place where we have a chance to change the world one person at a time. This is your chance. The man's name is Tom Tuohy , his charity is, Dreams for Kids, and the book that will change your life is, The Kiss of the Dolphin .
The point of this blog isn't just about Dreams for Kids, or The Kiss of the the Dolphin . It's also about knowing when to ask for help.
Tom is an amazing man and a friend of mine. Tom is also smart enough to be open for help. Many people are not. They never reach true greatness because they lack self- reflection. All of us, me included, can only get better if we look at our weaknesses.
Recently I learned some of my weaknesses through asking for feedback from one of my clients. Yes at 50 years of age, we can get better. My goal is to be the best I can be. There are those of us that seek greatness. It is hard to look at yourself in the mirror and see "you could have done a lot better." I choose to see what I could have done a lot better.
A study recently done asked people near death what they regretted the most in their life. And you know what they said?
- I should have done more self-reflection.
- I should have lived outside of myself more.
- I should have lived a life with no regrets.
